Television viewers are increasingly tuning out of broadcast networks' evening newscasts for coverage of war in Iraq, turning instead to cable news networks Fox News, CNN and MSNBC; CBS and ABC together lost nearly two million viewers in first 16 days of war, while NBC recorded slight increase, only because of its ties with MSNBC; three cable networks achieved gains of more than 300 percent over same period; key factor is said to be Bush administration's policy of placing reporters with military units engaged in fighting, which introduced new elements of live, often visceral, coverage that had has profound impact on viewers; broadcast executives urge caution before jumping to sweeping conclusions based on evidence of a few weeks; graphs; photos (M)
