al-Mart Stores Inc. and its Mexican joint venture partner, Cifra S.A., will open a Sam's Club store in Mexico City next week. The store will be the fifth Sam's Club in Mexico City and the company's 17th warehouse club in the country. In addition to its Mexico City stores, the joint venture owns three Sam's in Guadalajara, two in Monterrey, and one each in Puebla, Queretaro, Hermosillo, Toluca, Aguascalientes, Cuernavaca and Veracruz.

Renault Sale Is Considered

France would like to sell a minority stake in Renault S.A. to the public, but no decision has yet been made, the Minister of Industry, Gerard Longuet, said today. "Opening up the capital should be done by the end of the year," Mr. Longuet said in a television interview. But a Ministry official said Mr. Longuet was expressing a long-held desire to move ahead with the sale and that it did not amount to an official announcement.

P.& G. Chief Rejects Bonus

The Procter & Gamble Company's chairman and chief executive, Edwin L. Artzt, turned down about $100,000 in annual bonus pay in the wake of the company's losses on derivative securities earlier this year. Even so, Mr. Artzt's total compensation for the fiscal year that ended June 30 rose 7 percent over the prior year, to $2.88 million, including salary, bonus, restricted stock and other compensation. The pay package was disclosed in the company's annual proxy statement filed today with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
