Friends say that this kind of versatility might well stand him in good stead as President Reagan's newly designated ambassador to Lebanon. Mr. Bartholomew, who was nominated to the post today, has had difficult assignments before. In 1980, he negotiated the agreement for an American military base in Somalia. Just recently, he negotiated an agreement to keep American military bases in Greece.
